2025/2026 Goalie Clinic Coach Bio and Information:

Coach Joey Abbott – Goalie Coach & Program Director

Joey Abbott is the current Assistant and Goalie Coach for the Georgina Ice Junior Hockey Club and the founder of In the Zone Goalie School. With more than 25 years of experience coaching AAA goalies and a career that has included time with teams such as the Brock Wild, Lindsay Muskies, and Georgina Junior C, Joey brings unmatched passion and expertise to every session.

Before stepping behind the bench, Joey was a goalie himself—competing in the OJPHL, CIAU, and even representing Team Canada as a roller hockey goalie. That foundation as a player has fueled his passion for coaching, where he’s dedicated his career to helping young athletes develop their skills, confidence, and love for the game.

What sets Joey apart is his hands-on approach—he jumps right into the drills alongside his goalies. Every session is designed with structure, energy, and variety:

  • 5–7 minutes of stretching to get warmed up

  • 20–25 minutes of skating drills to sharpen fundamentals

  • Small group rotations where goalies work on different skills for 15 minutes at a time before switching

To ensure quality instruction, Joey provides his own assistant coaches, shooters, and pucks, creating a complete training environment. Younger and older goalies are grouped thoughtfully so that everyone feels heard, challenged, and supported.

Joey also offers optional dryland training—extra sessions focused on balance, hand-eye coordination, agility, and stretching—for those looking to take their game even further.

Joey’s ultimate goal is to make goalie training not only effective but also fun, so that every player leaves the rink excited to come back.
