EMHA Update
Submitted By K. Van Huizen on Monday, August 30, 2021
**Tryouts will begin the week of September 24th, Hockey will be 5 on 5 against other centres, there will be body contact, there will be no 50 player cohorts**

We have received direction from our local Public Health Unit that with the announcement that Ontario will be staying in Step 3 of the Roadmap to Reopen until further notice we will have to adjust programming until Step 4.

What does this means for you and your children? It is dependent how long we are in Step 3 but the following points should help clarify.

In Ennismore and Lakefield

  • Expect Covid screening and similar entry/exit/dressing room rules as last year.  We encourage the kids to come dressed when possible.
  • No outside food or drinks but reusable drink containers (ie Coffee cup and water bottle) may be used by participants and spectators.
  • Maximum 30 Participants allowed on the ice at a time including coaches. This number will have minimal effect on programming for tryouts and/or practices. Games will have a maximum of 13 skaters per team (if not in Step 4).  If there are more than 13 skaters per team then a rotation will need to be arranged.  We are well aware this is not ideal and our concerns and frustration regarding these restrictions have been expressed to the Local Public Health Unit and their decision makers.
  • Maximum 60 Spectators (two per participant)

In other arenas within Peterborough County the on ice numbers remain the same (30 participants). Spectator numbers will vary depending on which arena we are playing at.

When traveling to play against another team from another public health unit our teams must abide by the Public Health Unit restrictions for that region.  Teams travelling to our centers will be required to abide by our Public Health Units restrictions.

We are well aware that the news from this email will disappoint many but please know that we are making every effort to obtain information through the proper channels in a timely manner. If anyone has any questions or concerns please reach out to your local president.

In correspondence with the Public Health Unit, they have asked us to pass along the following message.

“We would be remiss too, if we didn’t take this opportunity to encourage you to support your staff, volunteers, parents and athletes (where eligible) to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Case counts for COVID-19 continue rise at an alarming rate, with provincial daily cases topping 630 on August 22. In a report published by Public Health Ontario, the rate of COVID-19 cases in unvaccinated individuals is consistently higher from December 20, 2020 to August 7, 2021, compared to fully vaccinated individuals. Plainly, this has become a pandemic of the unvaccinated. We would encourage you to share this ‘walk in calendar’ with your clubs and teams as vaccinations are the main tool we have right now that will ensure we can return to the people and places we love.”
